Aloha Soccer Players!!

February and March saw some exciting
things happen for Soccer here in Hawaii. Brian
Ching played his first home game as a
professional in the Pan-Pacific Tournament and
Hawaii got to see David Beckham up and personal.
Did he walk a lot during the game or was it just
me? Hawaii Soccer Magazine came out with its
first edition, check out the section on them
below. This newsletter was read by over 1,000

Hilo Co-Ed Makule |
|
So, you think your field conditions are
bad.....check out what Hilo has to deal with,
yikes!!
At
the peak of the storm on Feb. 2, the waters were
3' deep on the Hilo bay front soccer fields, and
it's expected to take several weeks for the water
to dissipate and the rubbish removed.
The County Dept. of Parks and Recreation will also
have to conduct soil tests for bacteria before
allowing matches to resume.

Another MISO player signs pro
contract!
Majell Aterado signs with MISL's California Cougars
Majell Aterado who played in MISO for the now
defunct Hurricanes FC, Latin
Hawaii FC and Vaiete SC, has just signed a
pro contract with the California Cougars of the
Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL).
"These guys are young kids that will bring a lot of
speed and enthusiasm to the team," said California
Cougars head coach Bernie Lilavois about his two
newest players Majell Aterado and Aaron Bonser. Both
rookies did exactly what coach Lilavois wanted, they
added a spark to a Cougars team that had lost seven
straight games since starting their season at 7-4.
Aterado had a three point goal in his debut against
the
Chicago Storm in a Friday night match seen on
Fox Soccer Channel. The Cougars (8-11)
defeated the Storm (13-8) 9-8 in front of 7,445 fans
at Stockton Arena.

MISO Div I: PrideSC ended the HSC
Bulls undefeated run by defeating them 2-0 on
2/24. The Bulls were however able to maintain
their top spot on the standings and became the
first Div I team to qualify for the Play-Offs.
Lanikai Tuesday's 6 game winning streak has moved
them into 2nd place and in need of only
1 point to clinch a Play-Off birth.
Amazon, Bulls Juniors and International
seem poised to make the post season as well but
not guaranteed yet, while Vaiete Premier, Pride SC
Kapaolono Dawgs and Latin
Hawaii FC are battling out for the 6th
and final spot.

the leading scorers' table, closely followed by HI
Rush's Meghan Fuller (5) and Leahi's KJ Nishikawa
& Erin Rementer (4).
Here are some recent photos from earlier
this month, thanks Chris!

MISO Div II:
Kamikaze,
Vaiete Premier and Ko-Am all clinched a place in the
Div II Play-Offs. Kahekili, Real
Hawaii FC and AC
Honolulu seem to be on track to take the
final 3 spots, but Waikiki,
KapParkand
Kapaolono Raiders have other ideas as they're making
a final push to earn their way into the post season.

M35+: Oahu
International ended defending champions Ko-Am
undefeated season with a 1-0 victory on 3/16, which
also moved them into 2nd place in the
standings. With the 2nd round just under
way, it's too tight to call as only 9 points separate
the 1st place from the 6th
place. Top four teams earn a place on the Play-Offs.

Masters News |
MISO
Masters:
After suffering 2 consecutive losses
which ended their undefeated season (0-1 Real & 1-2
Ohana), Hokulele bounced back and defeated the
defending champions Ko-Am 2-1 to maintain 1st
place in the standings. Only 6 points now separates
the top 5 teams. The "New Team" earned its first
point of the season by drawing 2-2 with Honolulu
International.

"The Messenger"
At one point during a
game, the coach called one of his 7-year-old soccer
players aside and asked, "Do you understand what
cooperation is? What a team is?" The little boy nodded
in the affirmative.
"Do you understand that what matters is whether we
win or lose together as a team?" The little boy nodded
yes.
"So," the coach continued, "I'm sure you know, when
a foul is called, you shouldn't argue, curse, attack
the referee, or call him a pecker-head. Do you
understand all that?" Again the little boy nodded.
He continued, "And when I take you out of the game
so another boy gets a chance to play, it's not good
sportsmanship to call your coach 'a dumb nitwit' is
it?'' Again the little boy nodded.
"Good," said the coach. "Now go over there and
explain all that to your parents." |

Forward to another soccer player and get one free
offside call in your favor...
See you on the pitch,
